Munich, “The Metropolis with a heart”, is the state capital of Bavaria. It counts as one of the most livable cities and important business-locations in Germany. Companies like BMW and Siemens have their headquarters here.
Every year, the world-famous Oktoberfest takes place in Munich. Apart from that Munich is known for its beer-gardens and the “Hofbräuhaus”. There, you have to try roast pork with dumplings or a pretzel with “Obazda”.
Munich can also be the perfect starting place for trips to the Alps. Even the Lake Garda can be reached within a few hours. You don’t have to travel that far though. The region around Munich offers some wonderful spots for swimming or promenading.
The natives of Munich however spend their free time at the Flaucher, right at the shore of the Isar, or in the English Garden, which runs through the whole city.
The Leopold-street in Schwabing and the Glockenbach-district are the hotspots with excellent restaurants and bars.
During the day, the Maximilianstraße invites to a shopping spree. People interested in technology should visit the German Museum or the BMW-Museum. The Allianz-Arena is also worth a visit. Here the FC Bayern München celebrated winning quite a handful of championships.
The landmark and highest building in Munich is the Church of Our Lady, situated at the very center of the city, just a few meters away from the town hall.
At the Viktualienmarkt, you can buy everything for your daily needs or spectate the busy streets out of one of the many restaurants.
